The 1996 edition of the American Silver Eagle represented the 10th anniversary of production, as the coin program kicked off in 1986.

The front of the coin depicts Lady Liberty as she holds a pile of branches in one hand and extends the other in open invitation toward the rising sun. This illustration parallels how the US invites its new citizens to partake in its abundant resources and opportunities.

The opposite side is stamped with the iconic Great Seal of the US. As our nation??s unofficial coat of arms, it consists of a bald eagle clutching an olive branch and a set of arrows from behind a shield. It serves as a reminder of the peace and protection promised to us by the federal government. The stunning imagery of this piece reflects the inspiring values and beliefs that made this nation so great.
