The “Walking Liberty,” initially created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, inspired the coin’s front (front). Once it was produced, the distinctive design quickly became a favorite among collectors and fans because it was already popular among the general population. Next, John Mercanti created the reverse (back), which featured a shield and a heraldic eagle. Like the Great Seal of the United States, the eagle holds a banner in its beak, an olive branch in its right talon, and arrows in its left. Thirteen five-pointed stars, signifying the original Thirteen Colonies, can be seen above the eagle and below the text.
